About

The University of Vermont Health Network – Porter Medical Center is comprised of a 25-bed critical access hospital, 105-bed skilled nursing home and 12 outpatient clinics in and around Addison County, including primary care, orthopedics and ExpressCare.

Porter works with partners like the United Way of Addison County, Mountain Health Center and Addison County Home Health & Hospice to address the health care needs of our community. Our work together is guided by a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA), which helps shape the health care services we offer our patients and residents, for example offering mental health care services at primary care clinics.

Beyond our impact in health care, Porter Medical Center is one of the largest employers in the region with approximately 700 total staff, including over 100 providers. Porter is always recruiting for a variety of positions, both locally and from out-of-state. We also work to provide training opportunities for people interested in a career in health care.

For example, Porter and the Patricia A. Hannaford Career Center offer a Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) training program. This semester long course is provided free of charge to ten new Porter employees who wish to begin a career in health care. It includes both online coursework and clinical training. After completion, staff receive a starting salary of $17 per hour along with potential bonus opportunities.
