Founded in 1762, Ferrisburgh has a rich history, which is celebrated in our nationally renowned museums, the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum and the Rokeby Museum. Many of the earliest European settlers still have descendants living and working in town or in neighboring communities. Today the town has 2775 residents, plus a larger population of families with summer homes on the lake. Most employment lies in the cities of Burlington,15 miles north, Middlebury,15 miles south, and Vergennes, a small vibrant town/city (population 2670) carved out of Ferrisburgh in 1783. There are still 28 operating dairy farms in Ferrisburgh, several of which are certified organic, other diversified farm businesses and some maple syrup production. Our K-6 grade school, is one of the best in the State, with teacher awards and innovative programs in science, healthy lunch programs, alternative energy, composting and recycling.
