Barbara Richardson

Barbara grew up in Windham County. After studying sustainable agriculture at UVM and apprenticing on organic farms, she spent nine years in various roles at Gardener’s Supply Company. From 1998–2008 she worked at the National Gardening Association as an editor and grants coordinator, providing information and guidance to gardeners and schools in the use of earth-friendly practices. For two years, she was a board member for the Vermont Campaign to End Childhood Hunger, now known as Hunger Free Vermont. In 2010, Barbara joined the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont (NOFA-VT) as Office Manager, where she supported staff in the delivery of statewide programming in the certification of organic farms and businesses, farm and food education and food security. After 27 years in Chittenden County, Barbara and her husband, Terry Souers, relocated to Rutland County in 2015, and from 2016 through May 2021 she served as Executive Administrative Assistant of the Rutland Housing Authority, supporting managers and program staff, and working directly with applicants and tenants to secure and maintain decent, safe and affordable housing. She and Terry reside in Brandon.
