Warning: ACEDC phone number used to perpetrate a scam

ACEDC was just made aware that our phone number is being used to perpetrate a scam against customers of the National Bank of Middlebury (and perhaps other banks as well). Caller ID for our number (802-388-7953) and, depending on the carrier, may appear as from Vermont Small Business Development or Robin Scheu (our former Executive Director). During these calls, the scammers will often reference publicly available information such as phone numbers, email addresses, or street addresses. They may send you a verification code through a familiar source, such as your phone carrier, Google Play or Apple Store. They may present the first 5 to 8 digits of your card number and request that you verify the remaining number. They may also ask you to verify your Digital Banking credentials.

A legitimate entity will not call you asking for your full debit or credit card numbers, personal identification numbers, Digital Banking credentials, or a one-time password. If you receive a call claiming to be from National Bank of Middlebury via ACEDC’s number – or any number - that asks for any of the information listed above, do not provide any information and please hang up.

If you are ever unsure if the call you receive is legitimate, hang up and then call the bank yourself at 802-388-4982 or 877-508-8455.
