O&M Field Technician

We seek a highly skilled, detail-oriented person whose primary responsibilities include performing troubleshooting, testing, service, repair and preventive maintenance on dual axis solar trackers. This includes determining root cause of issues, identifying appropriate parts & equipment needed to perform repairs, completing repairs in the field, regularly interacting with customers, and recording work performed & parts used into a job tracking system. Work is carried out with considerable independence under the general supervision of the Director of Operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot, test, service and repair residential & commercial dual axis solar trackers in the
  • field.
  • Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, and planned equipment upgrades &
    replacements.
  • With supervisor, assess all open pending cases and determine weekly priorities, in balance with
    ensuring efficient route management.
  • Assist with tracker installations and repowers.
  • Maintain proper inventory of repair items and equipment in service vehicle.
  • Maintain accurate records and appropriately record service work performed, hours spent and
    items used into a job tracking system. This may include warranty and non-warranty work.
  • Keep work areas, both in the shop and field, clean, organized and safe.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and customers to address concerns, answer questions, and provide
    technical guidance on tracker operations, maintenance and best practices.
  • Stay up to date with company and industry best practices, trends and evolving technologies.
  • Comply with safety protocols, practices and regulations while working in and around solar
    trackers, in vehicles & field equipment, on ladders, with electrical systems and in a variety of
    environments.
  • Ensure a clean, neat and organized field vehicle, and perform minor servicing as needed.
  • Provide training and mentoring for other employees as required.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts.
  • Understand and comply with all Company, safety rules and regulations.
  • Maintain and suggest improvements to our practices and protocols.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

  • 2-3 years of experience in the solar industry, with a focus on solar system maintenance, repairs
    and troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of solar energy principles, photovoltaic (PV) systems, electrical wiring, and
    components.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and resolving technical issues related to solar energy systems.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and handle multiple service requests
    efficiently
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Adapts easily to changing priorities and procedures.
  • Able to read, interpret, and follow documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance
    instructions, procedure manuals, and assembly instructions.

Field Project Technician

We seek a Field Project Technician to support the Field Project Manager (FPM) in the successful completion of solar tracker installations and other large projects. Assist in all aspects of project coordination from planning and design through installation and maintenance, including coordinating site work, planning the use of and operating equipment, ensuring safety compliance, customer engagement and supporting completion of projects on time and within scope.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with all aspects of solar projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget and to the required technical and safety standards.
  • Assist in developing project plans, schedules, budgets, and with allocating resources to ensure project success.
  • Operate equipment including skid steers w/multiple attachments, excavators, lulls, Ditch Witch trenchers and assorted other equipment as needed. Includes loading and hauling equipment (CDL not required).
  • Assist with oversight, management and training of field teams engaged in installation and large project activities.
  • Ensure that all project documentation and reports are accurate and up-to-date, and that all project activities comply with relevant policies, regulations and standards.
  • Perform site safety walks, promote and enforce safe work practices.
  • Plan with FPM and Director of Operations the upcoming Field Project Schedule and participate in the weekly field project meeting.
  • Ongoing 5S management of field tools, equipment and space.
  • Working with AC & DC electrical wiring components and equipment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and customers to address concerns, answer questions, and provide technical guidance on tracker installation process, maintenance and best practices.
  • Stay up to date with company and industry best practices, trends and evolving technologies.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts.
  • Understand and comply with all Company, safety rules and regulations.
  • Maintain and suggest improvements to our practices and protocols.
  • Walk or stand for an extended period, climb ladders, operate power tools and maintain equipment.
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

Education & Experience:

  • 2-3 years of experience in the solar industry preferred, with a focus on solar system maintenance, repairs and troubleshooting, and/or experience in the construction industry.
  • Knowledge of solar construction project development, design and commissioning
  • Understanding of solar energy principles, photovoltaic (PV) systems, electrical wiring, and components. 
  • Strong communication skills to work with customers, team members and contractors.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Adapts easily to changing priorities and procedures.

Operations & Maintenance Field Technician – Summer Team

AllEarth Renewables, Inc. seeks a technically minded team member who works in both our production department and in the warehouse. Works both independently and in a team to build and assemble AER parts and products. Confidently and safely operates all equipment needed to perform job duties. Keeps supervisor advised of work status, workload, problems, and progress as related to work assigned. Must be flexible with and adaptable to changes in product and production processes. Consistency and attention to detail is critical. Reports to Director of Operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Your summer job is a field-based, hands-on position working with our experienced team on the following:

  • Tracker inspections, including physical inspection and replacement as needed of system hydraulic and other components.
  • Production support, including beam assembly, building of frames and other components
  • All facets of tracker installation in various sites throughout Vermont (typical current installations entail between one and three trackers at each site).
  • Troubleshooting and problem solving in a company that “walks the walk” around its environmental values and mission.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
  • Adhering to Lean Manufacturing principles and safety protocols.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Able to work independently on assigned tasks as well as accept direction on given assignments.
  • Ready grasp of technical concepts.
  • Able to stand and walk for long periods of the day and do heavy lifting, bending, twisting, squatting, walking and climbing.
  • Able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.

Qualifications:

  • 2 Year technical degree preferred or appropriate experience.
  • Solar installation experience a plus but not required, and construction experience also a plus
  • Manufacturing experience a plus.
  • Ability to work outside in a full range of weather conditions
  • Ability to lift materials and components up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis
  • Able to be punctual and reliable.
  • Able to and follow policies and procedures.
  • Able to work flexible hours, including overtime, as needed.
  • Able to travel locally as needed.
  • Average hearing and vision, with the ability to discern colors.
  • Valid Driver’s license is required.
