The Vermont Employee Ownership Center (VEOC) is presenting an Introduction to Business Ownership Succession Planning seminar. In this seminar, attendees will learn the basics of how to choose a path for ownership succession in their business. A closer look will be taken at the four different ways of selling a business to:
- an outsider,
- family members,
- managers or
- the larger group of employees.
Attendees will also each receive a copy of “An Owner’s Guide to Business Succession Planning.”
The special guest for this event will be Bram Kleppner from ACEDC member Danforth Pewter. He will discuss how owners Fred & Judi Danforth defined their exit goals, and describe the plan the Danforths and he put together to achieve them.
In addition, John Davis from the Williston office of Davis & Hodgdon Associates CPAs and Don Jamison from the Vermont Employee Ownership Center will both give an overview of the business valuation process and the most common ownership transition models. While there will be some technical details, the focus will be on stories about each path, told by owners who have been involved in the sale of Vermont businesses.
