WhistlePig Thanked by Vermont Governor During State of the State Address
Addison County Economic Development Corporation (ACEDC) member WhistlePig Rye Whiskey of Shoreham was acknowledged by Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin during his recent State of the State address. WhistlePig was thanked for making a generous contribution to Vermont's Working Lands Enterprise Fund (WLEF). Administed by the Working Lands Enterprise Board, this fund makes grants available each year to new initiatives that promote the economic, cultural and community development of VT's working landscape. This fund offers direct investments in the state's working lands sector including the forests, farms, food, recreation and wood products industries. ACEDC Executive Director Robin Scheu is a charter member of the Working Lands Enterprise Board. The Governor thanked WhistlePig Distillery and their partner the Progressive Farm Alliance (PFA) for their $50,000 contribution for the next fiscal year beginning in July 2016. The PFA is supported by WhistlePig and its business partners. Donations like this from the private sector help to expand the fund's reach. Raj Bhakta, founder & CEO of WhistlePig, sees this as an opportunity to help Vermont's farm-based and agricultural-processing entrepreneurs in their infancy, a place that they previously occupied as well.
