VIA Projects Highlighted
Representatives of Addison County Economic Development Corporation (ACEDC) member Vermont Integrated Architecture of Middlebury will be participating in the following events. Architects Andrea Murray and Ashar Nelson will be offering two presentations in the coming weeks with fellow ACEDC members Middlebury College and Efficiciency Vermont.
On Wednesday, January 27 at 4:30 pm in Johnson Memorial Building Room 304 at Middlebury College, Ashar and Andrea will be presenting a lecture entitled “Learning from the Environment.” They will discuss VIA’s founding principles that the firm’s projects ought to recognize and emphasize the inherent value of our communities and the natural environment, and that creating durable, sustainable, and beautiful buildings makes economic sense. They will showcase recent projects that range in size and program from small follies to net-zero energy residences to the recently completed Waterbury Municipal Complex, and will share what they’ve learned in the process. The lecture is sponsored by the Cameron Family Arts Enrichment Fund and the Department of History of Art and Architecture.
Efficiency Vermont’s Better Buildings by Design Conference takes place on February 3-4, 2016 at the Sheraton Conference Center in Burlington. On Thursday, February 4 at 1:45 pm, Ashar and six other panelists will discuss “Commercial Net Zero-Design and Construction Lessons learned through Efficiency Vermont’s Commercial Net Zero Pilot Program.” Ashar will present an overview of the recently completed Waterbury Municipal Complex, offering insight into its successes and challenges as a net zero-targeted project. Discussion will focus on lessons learned in designing and building for commercial net zero. For more information or to register, click here.
