VT Coffee Wins Governor’s Environmental Excellence Award

Vermont Coffee Company, a member of the Addison County Economic Development Corporation (ACEDC), was recently announced as one of the winners of the 2018 Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence. Every year, the Governor recognizes several organizations and companies that are striving for excellence when it comes to sustainability.

Vermont Coffee Company's award-winning project installed over $1 million in new, energy-efficient equipment and switched from propane to renewable natural gas and Cow Power. Vermont Coffee is now the first U.S. coffee company to use 100% renewable biogas to roast its coffee.

Other 2018 winners include the Alchemist Brewery, Downstreet Housing & Community Development, Global Foundries,  and the Village of Essex Junction.

The Vermont Governor's Awards were established in 1993 to recognize the actions taken by Vermonters to conserve and protect natural resources, prevent pollution, and promote environmental sustainability. Awards are given to companies implementing outstanding projects that demonstrate a significant contribution to protecting the environment, conserving energy and reducing the production of greenhouse gases. The Awardees must also pass a review of their environmental compliance record, showing no violations, in any sector, in the past three years.
