ACEDC Executive Director to Mentor Youthworks Participant

Fred Kenney, ACEDC Executive Director (right) and Tucker Cummings (left) meet at the YouthWorks Mentor Lunch.

Youth Works, a joint workforce development project of Vermont Adult Learning, the United Way of Addison County, the Hannaford Career Center, and the Vermont Department of Labor are seeking business participants.

Youth participating in the program:

  • Develop employment/interpersonal skills and self-confidence through an entrepreneurial carpentry program, career exploration, internships, and community mentorships;

  • Gain technical and academic skills to enter the workforce or post-secondary education; and

  • Forge sustainable connections and partnerships within their community

There are two ways for businesses and business leaders to assist this great program:

  • Participate in the Business Partner program: provide guided tours of business facilities, two-day job shadows, and four-week internships.

  • Become a mentor. Mentors meet with students 1 to 2 hours per week to develop relationships, problem solve barriers to employment and education, build bridges between generations, and address isolation.

Fred Kenney, ACEDC Executive Director has signed up to be a mentor for the current cohort of youth and encourages other business leaders to join this mentoring opportunity.
