On April 16 ACEDC awarded a $1,000 grant to the New Leaf Organic Farm in Bristol. The grant will be used to offset a portion of the cost of energy efficiency upgrades recommended by Efficiency Vermont that are part of barn renovation to improve the farm’s operational and energy efficiency.

“Efficiency is a huge priority for our farm,” said Jill Kopel, owner of New Leaf. “These improvements will provide a climate-stable workspace for processing and packing our produce and flowers that are both energy and workflow efficiency.  This will be a huge improvement for our day today. We appreciate the assistance from ACEDC to offset the costs of these upgrades.”

Last Fall, ACEDC partnered with Efficiency Vermont, The Addison County Chamber, and utilities serving the region to increase the number of Addison County businesses taking advantage of Efficiency Vermont’s free energy efficiency assessments. The effort doubled the number of inquiries from, and assessments in, Addison County over the same period last year. At the same time, ACEDC offered a grant to businesses that implemented energy efficiency recommendations made by Efficiency Vermont.

New Leaf Organics has been providing organically-grown produce and flowers from their community-based farm on Bristol Road for over 17 years. They have a seasonal farm stand, offer to produce, berries, and flowers through a CSA, sell flowers for weddings and events, host community events and workshops, and you can find them at the Waitsfield farmers’ market and local food stores.  The barn improvement project started in January will provide a USDA-approved processing area that includes new coolers, employee facilities, a drive-through loading area, and energy efficiency improvements such as foam insulation, new windows and doors, and heat pumps.  Visit the farm at 4818 Bristol Road, Bristol or at
